AEROPLANE SEIZED
MR ULM’S PREDICAMENT PAYMENT OF DUTY DEMANDED. LONDON, August 2. The Daily Mail says that despite Mr Ulm’s assertion that he will resume his transatlantic flight at the earliest possible moment, the Liverpool 'Customs officials seized the aeroplane engines and locked them in a shed pending payment of duty (believed to be £300) because they were made in America. RELEASE OF ENGINES SECURED. LONDON, August 3. (Received August 3, at 9 p.m.) Avro officials secured the release of Mr Uim's engines on the undertaking that they would be refitted into the monoplane and not used in England. Repairs are being effected at Manchester and are expected to be complete in a fortnight.
