Silver, brasswork, bronzes, and electroplate occupy a place alongside jewellery, clocks, and watches. Not the least interesting is a collection of old needlework. Then there are Maori, South Seas, and Chinese sub-sections, together with sections devoted to war souvenirs and records, old Bibles, books and records, curiosities of Nature, old furniture, a miscellaneous section, and last, a representation of an old Scottish “but, and ben,” as applied to a dwelling of two rooms. There can be seen a butter print 150 years old, a “ goffering iron in use 100 years ago, a meteorite .with hollow glazed centre found-near Milton, and a spinning wheel that had lain in the chest of its present-day owner tor nearly 50 years. The Mayor in his remarks did full justice to the merit of the exhibition, and added that in ms opinion the time had arrived to establish a small local museum. OBITUARY.

At the monthly meeting of the South Otago: High School Board last night the principal asked the board’s permission to hold a dance at the, end of the term. Members generally were in favour of the ide&j but Mr M'Kinlay. was opposed to it. On a vote being taken, Mr M'Kinlay was the only vote, against the proposal. No further advice was received in regard to the additions to the school authorised by Cabinet, and- it was resolved that if the plans came to hand before the nest meeting the chairman be authorised to call a special meeting. The, cost of the installation of light at the Technical School, now used - for an extra classroom, caused some- discussion in view of a letter from the Otago Education Board to ‘ the effect that authority for the installation had : been given only on condition that the rooms should be used for technical purposes.—Eventually a sub-committee was appointed to investigate the matter, with power to act. The principal referred to the school successes in winter sport, and it ’ was resolved that he be asked to convey the board's congratulations to the football and basket ball teams and the respective coaches.
