PALMERSTON, August 2. BOWLING.

The annual meeting of the Palmerston Bowling Club was held last night, Mr R. Cameron presiding over a fair attendance of members. , ' A motion of sympathy was carried with the relatives of Mr J. M'Ritchie, members standing in silence. It was decided to instruct the clubs delegate to vote against the proposed extra centre levy of 3d per member. Accounts amounting to £2 17s 5d were passed for payment. The annual balance sheet showed a credit of £4 17s 4d for the year, as against £2O 16s 5d the previous year. It was decided to send a letter of thanks to the auditor (Mr A. A. M'William). Mr Cameron presented trophies to Messrs J. Dennison and A. K. _ Downie, winner and runner-up respectively of last season’s Singles competition. Messrs Cameron and Dennison received the Doubles trophy from Mr J. Stewart. The election of office-bearers for the ensuing season resulted as follows: — President. Mr J. Stewart; vice-president, Mr J. Dennison; secretary and treasurer. Mr W. J. M‘Kenney, jun.; General Committee —Messrs Haggle, MTvenney, sen., D. Ross, M'Kerrow, and Galloway; Refreshment Committee —Messrs A. M'Gregor and T. Pickett; delegate to North Otago Centre, Mr E. Grenfell; controller of the Matheson Rose Bowl and Galloway Cup competitions, Mr .J. J. Haggle; auditor, Mr A. A. M‘William; green supervisor. Mr J. J. Haggle; assistant supervisor, Mr W. M'Kerrow; greenkeeper, Mr S. Dowie. There was some discussion on the question whether one or three selectors should be elected, and it was decided to combine the office with that of the Match Committee, the following being elected as Match and Selection Committee: —Messrs J. Dennison, W. MTvenney, jun., and J. J. Haggie. As a recommendation to the Match Committee a motion was passed that the green should be closed for play before a visiting team arrived, thus eliminating the unfair advantage obtained by the home players finding the strength of the green. Waikouaiti having affiliated with Dunedin, the question of banner matches caused some difficulty. It was decided to accede to Waikouaiti’s request for evening play if necessary, and to obtain the opinion of the Hampden Club on the matter. THE SHAG POINT FIRE. There have been no further developments in connection with the Shag Point fire, but the police arc still investigating. Detective Power came to Palmerston on Sunday, Detective Sergeant Nuttall on Monday, and Superintendent MTlvency with Constable Ilanscu yesterday. Sergeant Isbister and six constables arrived from Dunedin this morning and will he on duty at Shag Point protecting property perhaps for some time. RUGBY FOOTBALL. The most interesting club match of the year should be witnessed on the recreation ground on Saturday, when Palmerston and Shag Point meet for the banner. Shag Point is undefeated, and Palmprston s only defeat was by Shag Point in the first round. The following are the teams: Shag Point—Gunn, Aitcheson, J. Barber, H. Wilde, Ross. M'Crostie, G. Barber. IT. Sheat, Pcddie, Perry, M'Kean, Mockford, J. Kitchen, Penny (2); emergencies— Burt, Wilde, Richardson. Shcat. Palmerston —G. Morrison. MTvnight, Hannah, Murray NicoU. W. Morrison, Peddle, Cameron. O’Reilly, O’Connell, Lang, Clearwater, Simpson, Parkhill, Whittleston; emergencies. Palmer, M'Gifford. The junior team, which will be as follows, will meet Merton as a curtain-raiser

The Dramatic Club held a_ social evening in the Athenamm last night, a Iwrge number of members being present. The programme was as follows: Readings, Mrs Newton and Miss Moodie; songs. Miss Maggin and Mr Whittlestcn; recitation, Miss Capstick; pianoforte solos, Miss Sheat and Miss Pickett. Community mnginir was led by Mr Whittlestcn, with Miss Sheat at the piano, and competitions were also held during the evening, Miss Aitkon and Miss Sheat winning the prizes.
