OPERATIONS FOR PAST YEAR STRONG POSITION DISCLOSED. (Special to Daily Times.) AUCKLAND, April 28. Details of the business of the Auckland Savings Bank for the year ended March 31 last were given by the president, Mr H. E. Vaile, at thd annual meeting of the trustees. The deposits received during the year, Mr Vaile said, amounted to £3,634,875, compared with £4,015,750 for the previous year, and the withdrawals totalled £3,721,151 as against £3,957,207. The interest credited to depositors’ accounts amounted to £251,130, compared with £281,207, and averaged £2 4s lOd for each operative account as against £2 11s in the previous year. The amount standing to the credit of depositors was £6,922,892, compared with £6,758,038 in the previous year, an increase of £164,854. The new accounts opened during the year numbered 18,215 as against 19,587 for the previous ..year, the schools bank department accounting for 2063. A total of 14,511 accounts were closed, excluding 8400 transferred to the Government under the Unclaimed Moneys Act. The accounts remaining open were accordingly decreased by 4696 to 153,903 as against 158,599 last year. “ It is satisfactory to note that notwithstanding the most trying year in the history of this country the bank has never been in a stronger position,” said Mr Vaile.
