THE YACHTING TRAGEDY
RIDER BY CORONER MORE EFFECTIVE JURISDICTION. (Per United Press Association.) NAPIER, April 28. That John Weymouth Hurrell died at Porangahau on April 25 from exposure and exhaustion consequent upon the wreck , of the yacht Mizpah was the verdict returned by the acting-coroner at theinquest into the death of John Hurrell, who was found dead on the beach after having come ashore from the yacht Mizpah, which was wrecked on Tuesday morning. The following rider was added:— “ That the Marine Department should have jurisdiction over all privatelyowned boats leaving their own waters to make ocean or coastal cruises with respect to the qualifications of the master and the life-saving equipment on board.”
