“SILENT DEATH”
NEW REVOLVER DEVICE LONDON, May 6. “ Silent Death,” an invention in the form of an extraordinarily effective silencer for revolvers, rifles and machine guns, has, according to the Star, been perfected by Mr Ronald Chapman. In 22 releases only the ping of the bullets in flight could be heard. The silencer consumes smoke and flame, and renders the Lewis gun silent at a distance of 10 yards. It costs 80s. It docs not interfere with sighting, trajectory, or velocity. Mr Chapman says that the invention consists of a secret liquid and an expansion chamber, into which the smoke is admitted by a spring door. The War Office is inspecting the invention owing to its value for snipers, scouts and machine guns. It is desirous of keeping the location of the tests secret. The device will not be openly marketed or even patented, as it would then be revealed to gunmen.
