, OTAGO CLUB. A Foursome Handicap competition (stroke) was played on the Balmacewen links on Saturday afternoon, the result being a tie between J. R. Laidlaw ana Fraser Edmond, and R- S. Brown and J. The first qualifying round of 1 the Belleknowes Club’s Ladies Championship was played on and, although the course was very wet, the following good scores were returned: —Miss Orr, 86—18 —6B; Miss M'Kenzie, 87—22—65; and Miss Swan, 91—26—65. Henry Cotton and W. Twine, each with 281, tied for the professional 1500 guineas Southport golf tournament. The scores of Hesketh and A. Perry were 282, Compston 284, R. Whitcombe 290, Mitchell and Padgham 291, Allis 292, Dennis and Havers 295, Duncan 296. Despite torrential rain A Compston equalled the course record of 67. COTTON RETAINS TROPHY, (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, May 15. (Received May 15, at 7 p.m.) In the replay Cotton’s score was 145 and Twine’s 146.' Three thousand watched Cotton retain the trophy after one of the grimmest encounters in the history of the tfounlament. He led in the first round, scoringi 71. Thereafter Twine, who had taken 73, made a plucky recovery. After being at one stage 3 down he squared at the thirty-fourth, holing a six-yarder. Cotton won the next and halved the last, taking 74. . The Hutt Golf Club is endeavouring to arrange for a match between the New Zealand team and a strong team of local players on the Hutt links on May 29. The consent of the New Zealand Golf Council has been obtained, and the secretary of the Hutf Club (Mr W. G.Fisher)is in communication with members of the New Zealand team concerning the match. Favourable replies have been received from J. P. Hornabrook (Masterton) and B. M, Silk (Wanganui). Rana Wagg (Hutt) and H. A. Black (Miramar) will be glad to avail themselves of some solid match play before they leave for Sydney to defend the Kirk-Windeyer Cup. The following team hag been chosen to meet the New Zealand team: —T. H. Horton (Masterton), A. D. S. Duncan (Wellington), J. H. Drake (Miramar), D. C. Whyte (Wellington), and D. C.
