An Oamaru resident, who resided for many years m Palmerston, recalls that May 17 (to-mor-row) was the fifty-fifth anniversary of the first meeting of the Waihemo Coursing Club, held at Bushey Park. There were visitors present from Dunedin and also from the adjacent townships, the attendance being close on 400, which was exceptionally good for those days. The meeting took two days to complete, and the £4O stake was won by an imported dog named Belle.
