THE WAILING WALL

DISPUTE AT JERUSALEM LONDON, June 11. Clear definitions of the rights of Jews and Moslems in the vicinity of the historic “Wailing Wall” are contained in the decisions of the committee which was appointed by tiro British Government to adjudicate on the rival claims to the wall. Jews will not bo permitted to blow the ram’s horn near the Wailing Wall, or otherwise avoidably to disturb the Moslems, while the Moslems will not bo allowed to carry out the Zikr ceremony close to the pavement adjoining the wall during Jewish devotions. The committee has decided that the Wailing Wall and the pavement are both the property of the Moslems, but Jews must be given free access for devotional purposes, subject to certain stipulations. These include a provision that the Jews must not use appurtenances of worship, except the Ark containing scrolls of law, and the tables carrying them. The Palestine Administration is to take over the maintenance of the Wailing Wall as an historic monument.
