The annual meeting of the Palmerston branch of the'Plunket Society was held in the Athenaeum room, the Mayor. (Mr W. H. Hopkins) presiding over a good attendance of members. 1 The secretary’s report was read as follows:—During the year Plunket work m the district has gone steadily ahead, regular visits having been paid to Hampden, Moeraki, Shag Point, Dunbaek, Waikouaiti, Seacliff, Karitane, and Warrington. The year began with Nurse Eirk as relihving nurse," but unfortunately she was Turner,' who acted as relieving nurse for some months, and has now been appointed permanent nurse for the district, m-which position she is, giving every satisfaction. Four members of the committee visited Warrington, and formed a sub-committee there for the Warrington and Seaclitt districts. A house-to-house, collection was made and several new members were en-. rolled; Various efforts have been made during the year to raise funds. A produce stall was held on Show Day. and refreshment stalls have been held at most ot the stock sales, and it is mainly owing to the energy and generosity of members o£ the committee on these occasions that me balance sheet shows the very satisfactory balance of £lls 13s lOd. It will be noticed, however, that the cost ot maintaining a nurse in the district is approximately £3OO a .year, and it is .confidentiy hoped that those interested in Plunket work will continue to give their support to the society through the present difficult The Mayor, in proposing the adoption of the report and balance sheet, congratulated the branch on the progress made during the past year, and said he thought the balance, was very satisfactory, conflidering the present difficult times, and expressed the hope ! that nest year it might be still larger.
