(From Omt Own Correspondent.) OPHIR, April 10. OPHIR PEACE HALL. The annual meeting of the committee of the Ophir Peace Memorial Hall was held recently, the vice-president (Mr James Stafford) presiding in the absence of the president (Mr T. Read), who sent in a letter of resignation. Mr L. Coulson (secretary) and Air J. M'Knight (treasurer) respectively presented the annual report and audited balance sheet, which were adopted. Speaking to the latter, the treasurer stated that that owing to a considerable decrease in the income from rent, strict economy had been observed and the fund had just held its own. The estimated expenditure for the current year was £45 19s. At the beginning of last year the debit balance amounted to £197 5s 6d, and at the end £195 8s Bd. The statement of assets and liabilities showed a favourable balance of £468 7s sd. Office-bearers for the ensuing year were elected as follows: t—President, Mr James Stafford; vicepresidents, Mr L. J. Hoskin and Miss J. M'Knight; secretary, Air L. Coulson: treasurer,, Air J. M'Knight; unofficial members —Airs D. Al‘Rae, Messrs J, Wroblenski, sen., E. Pitches and E- Tikey, It was agreed to celebrate the anniversary of the opening of the ball about Alay 14, The resignation of Air Read was accepted. BABY SHOW. A very successful baby show was held in the Peace Hall yesterday afternoon. Though undertaken at short notice, the function was so well organised by Airs M'Knight, Alias M'Knight and Miss M. Service that there was a considerable number of visitors from Aloa Creek, Poolburn and Omakau. Air James Stafford, president of the Hall Committee, presided, and after stating that the financial object of the gathering was the augmentation of the hall funds, lie declared the show open. The honorary judges, Drs Gladstone and Scrymgeour, then proceeded with their examination and weighing, of the 17 infants submitted, during which children from the junior department of Blacks School gave four musical items under the direction of Miss Service. After Dr Scrymgeour had given an outline of the methods adopted by the judges, Air J. M'Knight presented the prizes as follows: —Class I: Twelve months and under (seven entries) —Vivienne Stuart (Aloa Creek) 1. Class II: From one to three years (10 entries) —Violet Hitchcox (Ophir) 1, Leslie Johnston (Poolburn) 2. The donors of these prizes were Airs M'Knight, Aliss Service and Air Peats. The door prize, presented by Airs Tikey, was won by Airs Johnston, Poolburn. A guessing competition, the prize a cwC, sack of onions of unknown number, presented by Hoskin Bros., was in charge of Mrs L. Coulson. The prize was won by Mr S. A. Grant. Afternoon tea was provided by the ladies of Ophir. The net proceeds, including the sale of a gift by Airs M. Aloran, amounted to £7 6s 6d. THE WEATHER. The weather throughout the Easter holidays was very enjoyable, though somewhat cool in several nights. _ With the exception of four points of rain on Good Friday afternoon and the preceding day _ the weather was dry until Wednesday night, when 22 points fell between 9 a.m. and 2 a.m. yesterday. The solar maximum during the last six days has ranged from 90 degrees to 109 degress, with an average of 101.8 degrees, but the average grass minimum for the same period has been down to 29.4 degrees, the lowest being 19.9 degrees on the morning of April 4. The barometer is very unsteady, with a rising tendency. _ Today has been very dull and threatening.
