CLYDE NOTES

(From Our Own Correspondent.) CLYDE, April 11. THE WEATHER. The weather over the holiday period was not so satisfactory ,as campers and holiday makers wished. A short period of cloudy weather and some high fog was followed by rain. The absence of an extensive period of sunshine has been particularly noticeable, and the year seems considerably advanced towards the winter. DUNSTAN PARISH. The usual observances of Good Friday and Easter met with a very good response this year. The Good Friday attendances showed a marked advance on any former years, while on Easter Day a record number of communicants attended the services held in each centre. At St. Michael’s Church, the vicar (the Rev. A. B. Pyvvell) dedicated a festal burse and veil, and intimated that a number of other gifts had also been promised. BUSINESS CHANGE. The Victoria Store has been purchased by Mr Frank Lindsay from Mr J. L. Davidson. The new proprietor began operations last week. SWIMMING BATHS. The Town Trust and a special committee appointed at a largely attended public meeting have been going into the question of securing assistance under the unemployment scheme No. 5 for the purpose of securing swimming baths. The cost of material necessary must be borne locally, and this it has been found difficult to secure. There is now the offer of a section free of cost and about £SO in sight for material. Next Monday evening the Trust will consider the position and decide filially whether it intends to go on with the proposal.

CLYDE FOOTBALL CLUB. There was a large attendance at the annual meeting of the Clyde Football Club, which was held at the Town Hall on Thursday, April 2. Mr J. Wing presided, and at the outset made sympathetic reference to the death by motor accident of Mr A. Hawley. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect. The balance sheet and annual report were considered, the chairman complimenting the club on the result of last year’s play. A credit balance of £2O 2s 4d was shown.

The following office-bearers were elected:—President, Mr J. Wing (reelected) ; vice-presidents —Messrs E. J. Iverson, J. O’Connell, W. Wheatland, W. K. George, H. E. Stevens, P. Torric, and C. J. Spain; secretary, Mr C. J. Hanning, jun. (re-elected); Management Committee —Messrs C. M'Ginnis, A. Annan, W. Gye, J. O’Connell, W. Keddell, J. M'Arthur, E. J. Iverson, G. Taylor, and W. Wheatland; selectors —Messrs J. Wing, R. N. Paulin, and captain; club captain, Mr P. Torrie; delegates to subunion, Messrs J.‘ Wing and E. J. Iverson; Ladies’ Social Committee —Mesdames E. J. Iverson, M'Ginnis, Kinnaird, Hanning, Wilson, and H. E. Stevens. It was decided to leave the matter of a B Grade team in the hands of Mr G. L. Stevens. The sum of £l2 10s was voted towards travelling expenses, the General Committee to allocate. The question of a tournament at Matakanui this year came up for discussion and members decided to ascertain first the position of the claim made by Alexandra before supporting the proposal. HOCKEY CLUB. The Hockey Club’s annual meeting took place last week, being presided over by Mrs C. J. Hanning. The following officebearers were elected: —Patron, Mr S. A. Stevens; president. Miss Annan; vicepresidents Mesdames C. J. Hanning, M'Arthur, W. K. George, and Wilson; secretaries, Misses Hanning and Davidson; committee—Messrs Woods, O’Connell, H. Stevens, S. A. Stevens, Mesdames E. C. Wood, Wilson, W. K. George, H. Stevens, W. Annan, and C. J. Hanning, jun.; delegates and team selectors, Messrs A. Wilson and C. J. Hanning, jun.; coach, Mr Woods. PERSONAL. Mr and Mrs H. E. Stevens visited Oamaru last week to be present at the mamage of their daughter Coila to Mr Brian Blackmore. The ceremony was conducted by the Yen. Archdeacon Russell, of St. Luke’s, Oamaru. Mr H. Mooney, who some months ago was the victim of a severe accident on the West Coast, is now visiting his parents. While playing football recently Mr L, Scott, of the railway staff, met with an unfortunate accident by colliding with a wire barrier. He is an inmate of the Dunstan Hospital. After an absence of some months and a period of treatment in a private hospital in Dunedin Mrs J. L. Davidson has returned home very much improved.
