THE OLD QUEEN’S HOTEL.
TO mi EDITOR Sib,—-Permit me to correct some inaccuracies in the history of the old Queen’s Hotel, as recorded by the United Congregational Church and published in last Tuesday's Daily Times. Mr Dan White sold out to Mr John Colder, who had been a sergeant of police, and was later licensee of the Mornington Hotel, and also of the Central Hotel (now Jackson’s), in Princes street, Mr White subsequently took over the Black Bull Hotel in George street, and renamed it Royal Albert. Mr G older was succeeded by Mr Charles Norris, and Mr John Crane, formerly of the Coach and Horses, Saddle Hill, and also of the Douglas Hotel at the Octagon. Mr Louis Spatz, who, when a fireman on. a coastal steamer, drew £SOOO out of Tattersall’s, became owner of the _ Queen s. The last licensee was, I believe, Mr Young. I am writing from memory, and probably there were more licensees, but these I remember distinctly.—l am, etc., L. S.
