THE HAWEA WORKS.

TO HIE EDITOR

Sir, —When “Married Man” wrote to you a fortnight ago he stated some facte, but in my opinion did not finish the job. We have been led to believe that the divinity student referred to by him is an engineer, but I have reason to believe that he would be more correctly described as a motor mechanic. I have reason also to know that “Married Man,” who was done out of bis job in the office, was giving every satisfaction. I should like to ask why the Public Works at Hawea come under the heading of relief works. This is a question many are asking. It makes one wonder why men ..and their wives can come here in smart sedan cars, with loaded trailers, and get started on these so-called relief jobs. Surely someone is to blame for this. I was given to understand, also, that married men were to supply their own tents. People, however, who come in their flash cars to start work are fortunate in being put into Public Works tents. Surety, Sir, this is quite unjust. Inquiries into the position of these men would be welcomed by everyone. —I am, etc.^ Another Married Man. Hawea Flat, March 16.
