Monday morning, with 7C.2deg. in the shade at 9 a.m., promised to be a hot day, but the maximum for the day was 78.2 deg at 9.30 a.m., after which it cooled off to 58deg. at 7 p.m. The barometer, which had fallen 30 points on Sunday night, began ;to rise at 5 p.m., and at 6 o’clock light rain set in, giving 29 points during the night. With the exception of two brief spells in the evening, light rain fell throughout the day and night, yielding an additional 73 points. As no drying wind has followed, the ground is' now soaked to fully eight inches below the surface, —a condition that has not existed at any time since February last. The maximum temperature in the shade yesterday was 70.5 deg. and the grass minimum this morning 40.8 deg. There is now no snow lying on the Dunstan Range. "
