MIDDLEMARCH NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) MIDDLEMARCH, January 22. A complete change has taken place in the weather. During the last few days there has been an absence of wind, with a rainfall of 118 points. The district is recovering wonderfully, and turnip crops are now assured. The rain has come too late to make much difference to the grain crops, some of which are now cut and in stook, FAT LAMBS.

The returns for the fat lambs sent away at the beginning of the week have now been received by growers from the freezing companies, and it is gratifying -to find that they have “ killed out ” much better than was expected. The best line so far was sent forward by the trustees of the late Duncan M‘Rae, and consisted of 219 prime lambs, which killed out at an average of 44.31 b.
