MOSGIEL SCHOOL BAZAAR.

For some months past Mosgiel has been the scene ot a “ copper N trail,” the name given to the effort to raise money with 1 which to purchase furnishings for the remodelled school. There were eight sections in the contest, and the joint efforts of these gathered in about £250 before the doors were opened last night. The various sections were controlled as follows :—Art stall, Mr Sparks; soft drinks, Mrs Miller; cakes, Mrs Brown; sweets, Mrs Smeaton; plain and fancy stall, Mrs Rutherford; flowers, Mrs M'Leod; produce, Mrs Johnston; amusements, Mr Ballnntyne. The Mayor (Mr W. E. M'Lcan) and Messrs M'Leod and Connor controlled the raffling and drawing 1 of prizes. The side-shows included roll downs, dart throwing; shooting gallery, etc. At all stalls good business was done throughout the evening, The bazaar will be continued to-night. The Taieri Pipe Band supplied music last night, and tonight the Municipal Band will play. The bazaar was declared open by Mr A. B. Ansell, M.P. He was supported by the Mayor (Mr W. E. M'Lean) and the chairman of the School Committee (Mr H. Millar). . Mr Millar thankeu all who had helped in the preliminary work, and introduced Mr . Ansell, who expressed his pleasure at'being present, and congratulated the parents and friends of the children on their efforts to secure toi the school the most up-to-date- style of furnishings. It gave him great pleasure to know that the children would pursue their studies in future in such bright surroundings. Mr Ansell spoke of the . rapid strides made in education in Mosgiel in recent years, and expressed the earnest hope that what had already been accomplished would be only a shadow of what would be done in the future. The school had a progressive rector and an energetic staff, who were backed-by a. strong and hard-working committee. Where such unity of purpose ■ existed progress could be confidently anticipated. He congratulated the district on having such excellent educational facilities within the reach of all children, - and ; wished the bazaar, which he declared open for business, all success.
