ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL.

MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. The weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the Otago Football Association was held last night in the Y.M.C.A., Mr- J-. B. M'Callum (president) being-in the chair. SCHOOL FOOTBALL. Messrs Ruddiman, Patton, M’Leuuau, and Ball (the latter representing the Management Committee) were, appointed a snh-committec, with power to add to their number, to foster the game in the schools and to co-operate with the Primary Schools Sports Association in carrying out the competitions. Replying to a question by Mr Ruddiman, the chairman stated that all applications for balls from schools were being supplied as received. Requests for balls from eight schools wore received and granted. ' A CLUB’S PROTEST. Messrs Stevens and M'Lenuan waited on the committee as a deputation from the Mosgiel Club to inquire whether the press report of the chairman's remarks regarding the club’s protest against the match with Northern was correctly stated. “The chairman, had said, that he had spoken to the referee, who was sure the correct time had been played. The referee was the sole judge of time, and no action could be taken, and in his opinion the other reasons were trivial.” In reply, the chairman stated that he could not remember the exact words used, but the report was probably correct. He did not think, however, he would say that the marking out of the ground was a trivial matter. Mr Stevens said, the reason of the deputation was not to make complaints but ! to help the sport. The ground was not marked out and no nets were erected. He contended that, the. English international rules-should apply. The chairman said a maximum and a minimum measurement were laid - down in the rules, and the . association had drawn .the Northern Club’s attention to the ground. The marking’’Out of the grounds was a serious matter, but the committee could only act when its attention was drawn to the badly marked areas. The depute (ion expressed its satisfaction and withdrew. Following on the matter, the committee decided to draw the attention of the Reserves Committee of the City Council, to the condition of a number of grounds, particularly that at the Gardens Reserve. PLAYER REPRIMANDED.. Morris,, of the Maori. Hill Club, who was reported last week for using abusive language to the referee after the Maori Hill-Technical-- match last Saturday week appeared before the committee. In reply to the chairman, the playeradmitted the offence .and expressed 'regret for his action. •After a> short discussion, Mr W. P. Smitli said he looked upon Morris’s offence as more serious than if it had taken place on the fie’.d of play, and moved that the player stand down until the end of the first round. This was seconded by Mr J, Simpson, and, on being put before the meeting, was lost by four votes to three. Mr J. .Simpson then moved,, and Mr M. G. M'lnnes seconded, that Morris be severely reprimanded by the chairmap, in addition to the- sentence of having to stand down last Saturday until his case was considered,—This motion was carried.
