Die story of Antarctic exploration was the subject chosen at the meeting of tin* Dunedin Meccano and Hobbies Club last evening. The leader (Mr 11. F. Grif(ichs) made a wise choice, and his’iiarra live held the attention of members from start to finish. Commencing with a brief topographical description of the Antarctic regions as we know, them the lecturer spoke of the early belief'in a great southern, continent and of some o'-’ the early voyages in search of it.. The voyage of Tasman dispelled this belief but it was left to Captain James Cook to prove that the Antarctic was a wild inhospitable region, unfit for human habitation. The explorations of the early whalers . were followed with interest names like Weddell, discoverer of the sea bearing his name, Biscbo, Enderlev and Balleny shining out from ah already glamorous', page of Antarctic history '
