OBITUARY.
SQUADRON-LEADER W. H. PARK. (Fhom Opr Own Ooerespondknt.) ■ LONDON, October 25. Squadron-leader Walter Henry Park. M.L.., D.H.C., commanding the Royal Airl Force station at Hawkings, died at the' bhqrnchne Military Hospital on Friday October 19. after an operation, in bis thirty-ninth .year. At the beginning of the war, Squadronleader Park enlisted in the New Zealand torces, and served with them in Egypt £nd in the Dardanelles, where he was wounded. He was then given a commission th ® al Irish Rifles, and joined the 6th Battalion in Salonika. In 1010 he' transferred to the Rdyal Flying Corps, and after training at Ismailia and Dover, he fought with No. 11 Squadron in France, receiving the Military Cross for bringing down enemy machines. At the end of the war he was sent to North Russia, and took command of a seaplane unit at Murmansk- After a further period of service at OormanstoMTi, in Ireland, he went out to Egypt and Iraq. Ho had charge of the evacuation by air of personnel v from'. the town of Sulsinian, in Kurdistan, and lor this operation was awarded the. Distinguished Flying Cross. After sewing for throe years in Iraq, he was posted to the headquarters of the Air Defence of Great Britain, and remained on Sir John Salmond’s stall' until his promotion to the rank of squadron-leader at the beginning of 1027. when ho was given, command of tho Hawkinge station. Ho leave* a widow.
