WAIKOUAITI NOTES.

(Feoh Ottr Own Correspondent.) WAIKOUAITI, August 30, ODDFELLOWS.

The sixty-second annual Oddfellows’ social was held in the public hall last Friday night, and was one of the most successful held here for many years. Visitors were present from many neighbouring lodges, and it is estimated that 125 couples were present. The Mexicano Orchestra supplied the music, and Messrs N. Bannatyne and J. Maxwell acted as M.C.’s. MERTON SCHOOL JUBILEE. A movement is on foot for the celebration next Easter of the diamond jubilee of the Merton School. A strong committee has been formed, with Mr P. White as chairman, and Mr J. D. Brown as secretary. Several advertisements for the addresses of ex-pupils have appeared in different papers in the Dominion, and already several replies have been received. I understand that the first teacher of the school, Mr Orr, is still alive, and is living in Mornington. WAIKOUAITI BOWLING CLUB. The twentieth annual meeting of the Waikouaiti Bowling Club was held on Monday evening. The president (Mr E. Davie) occupied the chair, and there was a good attendance of members. The report and balance sheet were adopted, the latter showing that the club had commenced the year with a credit balance of £8 7s 3d, and finished with a credit of £7 17s 9d.

For the incoming year the following office-bearers were elected:—President, the Rev. T. W. Potts; vice-presidents, Messrs J. Gent and A. Prescott; secretary and treasurer, Mr E. Davis; auditor, Mr B. W. Fell; Ground Committee — Messrs H. S. Allcock, j. Gent, and N. Stewart; selector, Mr B. W. Fell.

It was decided to hold a working bee on the green ns soon as possible, the arrangements for which were left in the hands of the Grounds Committee.
