TAPANUI BOROUGH COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. (From Our Own Correspondent. ) TAPANUI, July 3. The monthly meeting of the Tapanui Borough Council was held on Monday evening, when there were present—The Mayor (W. R. Quin), Crs Naylor, Wylie, M'Donald, Bradley, Beattie, Edgar, Duffy, and Cameron. CORRESPONDENCE. Mrs E. S. Sim wrote making application for a load of gravel for crossing in front of her residence in Bedford street.—Granted. Wylie Bros, wx-ote asking for permission to put in a strip of concrete 6ft wide in front of their premises to facilitate the serving of petrol from their bowsers.—The permission ■ was granted. The secretary of the Junior Football Club wrote stating that the damaged light fittings in Athenaeum Hall had been replaced and apologising for the inconvenience caused.—Received. The secretary of the Otago Expansion League wrote asking that an estimate be forwarded as to the amount the council proposed expending on main highways within the borough, and the particular portion selected. —It was decided to write informing the league that maintenance at an estimated cost of £lO per year would cover main highways expenditure. Mr F. S. Dyson, No. 17 District Highways Council, wrote asking £Tie amount required for the maintenance of highway within the borough for the period February 24, 1928, to March 31, 1928.—An estimate of £lO per year would be forwarded. CEMETERY. Cr Edgar, on behalf of the Cemetery Committee, reported on the duties of the caretaker and the cost of keeping the cemetery in order. He said it was necessary to employ the caretaker for at least two days a week. —After considerable discussion the report was adopted. It was decided that arrangements bo made with Mr Winston, surveyor. Gore, to survey block to be taken in for cemetery purposes. GENERAL. It was resolved that the Works and Water Committees be asked to inspect the drain running through Mrs M‘Coll’s property with a view to naving it piped, and to submit an estimate of the cost to next meeting of the council. The Works Committee was empowered to purchase a suitable extension ladder for the use of the borough workmen. Crs Cameron and Naylor were empowered to sign the S.E. Power Board rate book. Accounts amounting to £7l 15s 4d were passed for payment.
