“BIG DAY.”

COMMERCIAL TRAVELLERS’ EFFORT. The Otago Commercial Travellers and Warehousemens’ Association, with Mr W. Thomson as president, has decided to make the seventh appeal to the public of Dunedin on behalf of charity, and to assist the poor and needy in the district. Previous appeals have resulted in the “ Travellers ” raising an amount in the vicinity of £BSOO, and it is felt that this amount can be increased by another £ISOO. Last year, owing to the Gaming Act, the usual method of raising funds by means of surprise packets was not available, but, nothing daunted, the travellers conducted a very successful Art Union, and this year it is intended to raise money by this means once more. Permission to hold the Art Union has been asked of the Minister of Internal Affairs, and will, no doubt, be granted, especially as the amount raised is to be devoted to charity. The prizes will be on view in several business places in the near future, and the public will have an opportunity of purchasing Art Union tickets, but the “ Big Day ” will be the day when the travellers will make their appeal. \ The allocation of the money raised will be the same as in previous years, namely. Salvation Army 60 per cent.. Citizens’ Relief Committee 20 per cent., and the C'.T. Blind Soldiers and Sailors’ Fund 20 per cent. Straight out donations of money or goods to the fund will be thankfuly received.
