TOURING BOWLERS.

NEW ZEALANDERS AT SWANSEA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) LONDON, May 19. It was a happy coincidence that the New Zealand bowlers visited Swansea at the same time as the minesweepers, H.M. ships Dundalk and Dunoon. The naval officers ivere invited to the luncheon given to the bowlers by the Mayor of Swansea (Cr T. W. Howells) at the Hotel Metropole. The Mayor and the Mayoress, other councillors, and many bowlers met the visitors on the station. After the reception visitors and hosts were taken in charabancs to Caswell Bay and to Langland and Bracelet. At the luncheon Mr P. W. Phillips (vice-president of the Swansea Club) proposed the toast of the guests. He took the opportunity of emphasising the beauties of the landscape and seascape •around the Gower bays, and also the importance of Swansea’s big tinplate and oil trade, the trade figures of which he gave. In this connection he urged the great importance of an interchange r f products between the two countries, Mr Hardley made a vigorous and patriotic speech, in which he advertised New Zealand apples. Commander Lawrence, of H.M.S. Dundalk. in an amusinc' speech, said that ne did not wonder after the president’s speech tha’ the Germans had lost the war. “If you gallant men have to stand men like him.” he said. “ then I put my money on New Zealand every time.” The New Zealanders faced six rinks of local players after lunch. The green, while running truly, was not quite keen enough to suit the visitors, who lost by 50 shots. Details;— Swansea. New Zealand. A. J. Stacey 26 A. J. Carson 10 H. Williams 22 Tom Horton 15 E.
