AN ASTHMA CLUB.

LABORATORY RESEARCH URGED (From Ova Own Correspondent.) SYDNEY, February 2. An Asthma Club, while it may, on the surface, sound very much like a new form of imbecility. i* being suggested by correspondents in the rpe; Columns of a leading section of the Sydney press. Sufferers from asthma, who are legion in Sydney, as in every other place almost, feel that by organising their forces they may be able to carry more weight in asking the authorities to make intensive laboratory research into the complaint. The suggested Asthma Club is nos, a joke by any means. In the letters of the correspondents, one sees the little tragic vein that reveals an almost hopeless battle. One sufferer, for example, traces his trouble back to the day of the influenza epidemic in Sydney, and to the compulsory use ot what he terms the fool masks, which, incidentally, not a few medical men jvarred against at that time. The Government is being urged to set up a laboratory at the university to make a thorough survey of the distressing complaint. One correspondent suggests, with much feeling apparently, that it should be * punishable crime, with a minimum of six months’ imprisonment with Hard labour, for any quack to put up a concoction as asthma cure. The correspondence suggests very strongly that the Asthma Club, when formed, is not likely to get into a moribund condition even if it is reared in a somewhat morbid atmosphere.
