BLAZE AT LUNA PARK, OUTBREAK AT "RAILWAY STATION.” (Special ro Haile Times.) AUCKLAND, February 1. The value* of having an auxiliary firefighting plant on the spot and direct alarm communication with the City Fire Station was exemplified at Luna Park, when the “ railway station ” burst into flames at 6 o’clock this morning. The caretaker at once sept a call through to brigade headquarters, and got the park’s auxiliary plant to work. This consists of a hydrant at a central point, and sufficient hose with branch attached to reach any of the buildings, and also chemical extinguishers. The flames travelled quickly about the woodwork of the " railway station ” and were mounting high when the city firemen took up the challenge. Leads of water were quickly linked from several vantage points. The fire was got under control, and the danger to the surrounding buildings was soon past. The railway itself, which is one of the main attractions of the park, was not in any way damaged. A fire occurred at Luna Park on January 22 last year, the damage on that occasion being of a much more extensive nature. The present damage is estimated at £2OOO. The park buildings and plant are covered by a general policy amounting to £23,000. FOUR-ROOMED HOlfeE DESTROYED. (Per United Press Association.) NAPIER, February 1. A four-roomed house in Coote road, owned and occupied by Mr Boardman, was gutted by fire this morning. The insurances totalled £550 on the house and contents in the Standard office.
