DEATH FROM POISONING. (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, February 1. The death occurred in the Auckland Hospital yesterday afternoon of Minnie Knott, aged 54, married, who was found on Monday at 399 Upper Queen street, suffering from the effects of poison. The deceased arrived at Auckland on January 10 from Woodville. RAILWAY WORKER’S DEATH. (Per United Press Association.) OHAKUNE, February 1. E. W. Chirnside. a fitter in the Railway Workshops at Rangataua, was found shot dead in his whare this morning. A CHILD POISONED. (Per United Press Association.) WANGANUI. February 1. At the adjourned inquest to-day on the child Ailsa Bremner, who ate portion of a meta fuel tablet at Hawera, and died after being taken off the at Waverley the following day, the Government analyst’s report stated that it was evident that the nreparation was very dangerous in view of its grave danger to children. The analyst intended co bring the matter under the notice of the Director-general of Health, with the object of having the poisonous nature of meta tablets more clearly indicated on the packets. A SUDDEN CALL. (Per United Press Association.) WANGANUI, February 1. Mrs J. W. Wyley dropped dead at Kauangaroa to-day. She was the wife of a well-known and prominent settler. DROWNED IN BATHS. (Per United Press Association.) WANGANUI, February 1. Late this afternoon Graham Barstow, the 11-year-old son of the manager of the South British Inscribed Company, sank in the city baths. He was recovered after a few minutes, but a continuous effort for three hours at resuscitation failed. A SCHOOL GIRL KILLED. RUN DOWN BY M.OTOR CAR. (Per United Press Association.) GISBORNE, February 1. Hurrying to school across the Awapuni road this morning, two girls—Edna, aged 8, and Faith aged s—daughters of Mr Allan Third, of Salisbury road, were run down by a car, Edna being killed instantly, while the other girl was severely injured. The accident followed the sudden appearance of the children from behind another vehicle, the car driver’s effort to escape a collision being rendered ineffective owing to the panic-stricken rush of the victims. The car was driven by Tom Dennis, a Maori All Black. . CAR CRASHES INTO POLE. OCCUPANTS SUFFER MINOR INJURIES. (Per United Press Association.) NELSON, February 1. A car, driven bv Mrs E. S. Short, crashed into a telegraph pole in Haven road this morning. The driver and the other occupants (Mrs A. Chisholm and Mrs E. A. Froethay, both of Wanganui, and Miss Wells, of Nelson) all suffered minor injuries. A SUDDEN CALL. Mr Joseph Evans, who was well-known in trotting circles in Dunedin, and was keenly interested in all that concerned the sport dropped dead yesterday afternoon in a house in Maitland street, where he had been paying a business call. The deceased, who was married, and resided at 16 Council street, St. Kilda, was ol years of age, had, for the past 26 years, been employed, as a grain salesman with Messrs Waters, Ritchie, and Co., prior to which he was employed by Messrs A. Moritzson and Co. He had been suffering from heart trouble for some years, and it is understood that death was due to natural causes.
