FARMERS’ DIFFICULTIES.
MR W. J. POLSON’S VIEWS. (PBb United Press Association.) WANGANUI, December 6. The difficulties which best the paths of the farmers throughout the Dominion were outlined to-day bv Mr W. J. Poison dent of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union) in a striking address to the Wanganui Rotary Club. The address was preliminary to an important rally of the North Island farmers, who will gather here on Thursday next to discuss pressing rural problems. Mr Poison drew attention to the need for economy in public expenditure, a better land settlement policy, the extension of overseas markets to America and the Orient, and the need for the stabilisation of land values and labour conditions. He suggested drastic penalties for breaches of labour awards, stating that the present price of the primary products did not allow farmers to make both ends meet.
