INDUSTRIAL EUROPE
ANGLO-GERMAN CONFERENCE. CORDIALITY OF FEELING. FURTHER DISCUSSIONS TO BE HELD. (Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, December 5. A conference of delegates of the British and German Federations of Industries iu London has issued a communique stating that it was agreed that a detailed discussion on tariffs is at present premature, but preparatory work is possible. It also discussed plans for the interchange of information relating to costs of production. The communique adds: “Though the work was entirely exploratory the greatest cordiality was manifested. The discussion showed that the field for cooperation is wider than was anticipated.” The official report mentions that the organisations will further investigate the general European economic situation with a view to their next meeting, and also that discussions were held on the question of the possibility of increasing credit and insurance, and to supply information on the credit of potential customers. No further steps will be taken, however, until after the forthcoming international meeting of representatives of European insurance companies. Both organisations expressed great satisfaction with the progress made and the great future possibilities opened up for their co-operation. An important disclaimer was issued by the heads of both Federations, in whicht hey emphasised that the question of international cartels and combines was not discussed by the conference, nor was there reason for the suggestion of any combined action by British and German industry against any other country s industry. The representatives of both organisations declare that they would regard such action, not merely as improper, but also as extremely foolish. —A. and N.Z. Cable.
