DEFLATION OF FRANC
ECONOMIC PROBLEMS
THE SPECTRE OF UNEMPLOYMENT. (Pre«» Association —By L'elegraph—Copyright) PARIS, December 6. (Received Dec. 6, at 10 p.m.) The big problem in France is the fate of foreigners numbering 200,000 or 300,000 who are likely to be thrown out of work in the process of revalorising the franc. The recent inflation gave French trade an artificial stimulus, and_ every employer clamoured for men, until it is estimated that 3,000,000 foreigners are working in France. The iron factories around Paris are already discharging half of their men, and two of the largest motor firms arc dispensing with the services of between 2000 and 8000 hands apiece. The Lyons silk factories, the Roubaix and Tourcoing textile works, and the Rougeres boot manufacturers are also feeling the pinch.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
