A SPEEDING FRENCHMAN.
DASH ACROSS INTERSECTION. il’fcß United Pbe-s Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, September 27. George Boyron, a recent arrival from France, pleaded guilty in the Magistrate s Court this morning to a charge of driving a motor car at a dangerous speed across the inter-section of Victoria street and Bealey avenue. Chief Inspector M'lntosh said that defendant’s speed was 25 miles an hour. Mr Thomas, who appeared for Boyron, said that defendant was a Frenchman, who had been in New Zealand about a month. He knew nothing of the speed regulations. On tho way from Kaiapoi he met a man and a woman, who had an urgent reason to get to Christchurch as scon as possible. They had missed the train, and Boyron gave them a lift. “In France,” said Mr Thomas, “ i f men drove at that speed they would be had up for loitering.” . , But France is a very fast country, said the magistrate (Mr H. A. \oung). His act of charity cost Boyron £2.
