1 STANDARD OF WAGES. CONSIDERED TOO LOW. (Pub United Press 'issociation.) AUCKLAND, Sentember 27. At the annual reunion of the Auckland section of the Post and telegraph Emnloyees’ Association Mr Markham (secretary of the Post Office), in ve-Iying to the toast of the evening, urged the younger officers to qualify for promotion by examinations. He said that .during the past 12 to 18 months there had been a marked improvement in efficiency. .... Sir Carr Coresident of the association) said there was no doubt that the employees of the department were underpaid. The wages were something like 35 per cent, above the 1914 level, while the cost of living had increased 25 per cent, more than that. . ... Mr Jordan, M.P., referring to the weekly wage of £3 19s 9d, said: Tt is a most disgraceful state of affairs. I am ashamed to be associated with a Parliament which allows this position to be maintained. It is up to every man to stand by the association and urge his rights.” ___________
