AUSTRALIA’S NEEDS
MORE SECONDARY INDUSTRIES. PLEA FOR INCREASED IMMIGRATION. (Frees Association—By Telegraph—Copyright.) BRISBANE, September 24. During a debate in the Assembly on . migration policies the Minister of Mines (Mr A. J. Jones) said that it was a"fallacy to say that every man brought to. -. Australia would displace workers here. On the contrary, he believed that every C man brought out, providing he was a ' worker and a producer, would create em-. ployment for two Other men. P was ; foolish and inconsistent for people to-adro- - cate a “White Australia,” and then close the door in the face of white people who wanted to make Australia their home. To-day Britain was under-producing and over-populated, but Australia was overproducing and under-populated. What Australia wanted was secondary industries. It was not advisable to bring agriculturists to Australia to add to the over-production .of wheat, wool, and butter. They required skilled workers to’ ■' build up secondary industries. Land settlement would follow almost simultaneously.
