RATEPAYERS’ ASSOCIATION.
ROSLYN AND KAIKORAI. The first meeting of the new executive of the Roslyn and Kaikorai Ratepayers’ Association was well attended. Mr P. L. Ritchie presided. There were present: Messrs Armstrong, Armib Bell, Buohler, Ellis, Goodlet, Hood, Harper, Hunter. Moir, and Wilson. The new members were welcomed by the president, after which correspondence dealing with various matters from the City Council were read and noted. Complaints wore received from several residents with reference to motor-cycle _ and car speeding at all hours of the night, especially in Highgate A favourite place for accelerating speed was from the junction of the Kaikorai car sheds up the Taieri road. This nuisance was especially bad on Sunday mornings during church services. The association had been asked to protest strongly to the City Council to nave the matter remedied, and the police had also been asked to co-operate. The matter of establishing a receiving banking office in the district was brought forward by Mr Ellis. Ho said it seemed strange that such a substantial trading and progressive community should have to go oil the way to Dunedin to do its banking. There was certainly room for such an institution in their midst. It was resolved to approach one of the principal banks and to report at next meeting. Various other matters concerning the district wore brought forward and dealt with. New members in large numbers were being enrolled, and satisfaction was expressed at the success of the canvass for the ensuing year.
