The attempts to refloat the steamer Cooma have been abandoned following the failure to free the vessel during the recent high tides. The next high tides occur in January, so the outlook of saving the vessel is therefore not bright. The steamer Cooma (3830 tons), with 200 passengers on board, went ashore on July 7 on North Reef, a desolate spot off the Queensland coast.
