ELEGANT MUSICAL PLAY.
“WILDFLOWFR.” The J. G. Williamson Now Musical Comedy Company, headed by Marie Burke, will present “Wiidflower” at His Majesty’s Theatre to-morrow night. As the thcar.ro is otherwise occupied on Monday and Tuesday next, the company will play Invercargill on those nights, returning to Dunedin Wednesday next. Of “Wiidflower,” (ho new J. C. Williamson eagerly awaited musical comedy production, introducing to playgoers Mario Burke, the critic of the Now Zealand Tunes writes:— “There may have been musical comedies which possess many melodics which will bo dear to the hearts of music lovers, but there have been few bettor produced. In the first act Guido and old Luigi watch the light upon Nina’s donkey cart as it glides along the load past the fields, in the second the little girl of the piains steals her rival's sweetheart in a scene strikingly sot, at the end of the play Nina and Guido, reunited in a thunderstorm, sit under a snow of blossoms from an apple tree.” This tree plays an important part in the story. From "it Guido, ever the bashful lover, plucked the apple in which ho concealed the ring token which tolls has passion. -They are to be married when the tree is in blossom, and, after all their vicissitudes, they are left happy beneath- it. A wealthy old grandfather loaves Nina a fortune: she is content to refuse it until taunted by Bianca Benedetto, a kinswoman, who will inherit the money. Then Nina decides to accept the money with its attendant condition that she. must leave Co-simo on the plains of Lombardy, and spend six months at the Benedelto villa, on Lake Como. A governess is appointed, and Nina is to keep her temper for the appointed time or forfeit the fortune. Attempts to irritate her are laughed at until on the last day Luigi’s fidelity is assailed ; and then Nina bursts into a storm of fury; but : t is too late, for the clock strikes midnight an instant before. Believing herself forsaken she robs Bianca of her lover; but back in Casimo misunderstandings are clean'd away, and the desirable ending does not fail. Marie Burke is inimitable as Nina. The company generally includes Messrs Gus Bluett, Herbert Browne. Noel Allan. Chas. Zoli. John Ford, Marie la Vnrre. and Marjorie Daw, who are one and all splendidly exist.
