LIQUOR IN ONTARIO

THE FIRST “4.4 DAY.” INFLUX OF AMERICANS. TORONTO, May 22. More than 203,000 thirsty Americans crossed the border yesterday to help Toronto celebrate its “4.4 day,” the first day of the sale of beer in Ontario containing 4.4 per tent, of alcohol. It is safe to say that 195,003 returned homo unintoxicated and rather dissatisfied. Among the Canadians themselves the new “wet’’ area is fairly popular, the verdict generally being that the beer is refreshing and satisfactory. New York newspapers explain the failure of Americans to “enthuse” by jocular suggestions that they have, long been inurod to other-charged bootleg liquor.
