FENCING EESEEVES.

TO THE EDITOR Sir,—Those people who suggest* that the fencing- round the Octagon reserve should be removed because parks in other places are unfenced, forget that those parks arc quite unlike the Octagon, being what might be termed rough parka planted with large trees, but without gardens. In Sydney parks of this description are open, but the Botanic Gardens are not. The garden plots in the Octagon are a delight to lovers of the beautiful, and to open them to the tender mercy of biped animals would be a sacrilege.—l am, etc.. The Garden Beautiful. St Clair, Juno 5. OT ZEALAND PRODUCE AT HOME. TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —My attention has been drawn to a letter in your issue of 3rd inst. in regard to private or gift orders of fruit for delivery in Great Britain on similar lines to that which- is in vogue for lamb. 1 should like to say that this is a matter which has had the attention of the Otago Fruitgrowers’ Council and the New' Zealand Fruitgrowers’ Federation for the past iwo years, but so tar no practical scheme has been formulated owing mainly to the difficulty of anviug at a uniform scale of delivery charges to various parts of England, Scotland, and Wales. Quite a number of Oiago shippers have been assisted by the council in the delivery of orders to friends in England and Scotland during the past two years, hut in these cases the cost of delivery came back on the account sales. That is all right as tar as it goes, but what is wanted is a scheme by which any person in New Zealand may. by E re-paying a certain sum here, arrange to ave a case of our fruit delivered to any nominated address in the Old Country'. This matter is now being investigated by the federation representative at Wembley Exhibition, Mr T. W. Atlwood, ad it is hoped that some workable arrangement will bo available for next shipping season.—l am, etc., H. Turner, Secretary Otago Provincial Fruitgrowers’ Council (Ltd.;. Dunedin. Juna 6,
