CONDITIONS IN GERMANY
INDUSTRIAL CHAOS. FRANCE'S ''MLITARY TYRANNY." Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, May &>. (Received May 26, at 8.55 p.m.) The Daily Chronicle's Berlin correspondent says: "The situation is becoming worse, and ia perilously near 'flashpoint.' The area of greatest danger is the Ruhr, where all the mines have been closed down for a few weeks on account of a vast lock-out, which is really an attempt to force starvation wages on the miners. This week will see the cessation of practically all production in the great industrial centres of Germany. One million workers in Rheinish Westphalia are idle, and one and a quarter million are being fed at the public expense at a cost of £30,000 a day. The Communists are becoming ever more troublesome, and the tyranny of the French militarists continues unabated. General Degoutte recently demanded that the city of Dnsseldorf should construct barracks costing £600,000. There is every appearance that France is consolidating licr position."—A. and N.Z. Cable.-
