LONDON, May 26. (Received May 26, at 8 p.m.) The Daily Chronicle says that Mr Sydney Larnach's neighbours at East Grinstead were astonished to learn that he was a millionaire whose estate benefited the exchequer to the extent of £470,000 in death duties. He was a shy, retiring man, who took little part in local affairs, though he was a munificent patron of local charities. Apart from bequests of £IO,OOO apiece to the Middlesex, St. George's, London Bartholomew's and Thomas hospitals, the Barnadoes homes, and the National Inetitution for the blind, Mr Larnach bequeathed £SOOO apiece to the Trcloar Cripples' Home, the Salvation Army, and the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution. Mrs Margary, a sister, gets £IOO,OOO, and Misses Charlotte, Dargach and Isabel Larnach £25,000 apiece. Colonel Margary receives £IO,OOO, and Mrs Larnach Nevill, a niece, receives £20,009, while £IOO,OOO and the residue of tho eistate goes to Mr Evan Margary, a nephew. The testator was fond of shooting and liked horses, but he had a great objection bo motor-cars. He was much loved by th'e few servants which lie kept at his ■unpretentious establishment, Yew Tree House. He apparently increased his fortune by judicious investment and tho recent improvement of his Australian properties.—A. and N.Z. Caljle.
