EXCLUSION OF JAPANESE
RESOLUTION BY MEMBERS OF DIET. AMERICA’S ACTION DEPLORED. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. TOKIO, May 24. A meeting of the leaders of every party in the Diet, including several ex-members of Cabinet and members of the notability, adopted the following resolution : “That whereas, completely disregarding the history and spirit of the “Gentlemen’s Agreement,’’ which Japan had announced her willingness to modify, the United States Congress has passed an immigration Bill deeply injuring our national pride and susceptibilities, it is resolved that we, the members of the Diet, record our profound sorrow that Congress by its action should have attacked so harshly the cordiality of the relations between Japan and America. “It is further resolved that, although the public temper has remained calm, it might give way to feelings of natural resentment, and it shall bo our policy to do everything we can to restrain any intemperate exhibition; and in this resolve we are supported by the hope that means may still be found' to check the enactment of the Bill into law.-—A. and N.Z. Cable.
