JAPAN AND RUSSIA

o> MOVEMENT TOWARDS RECOGNITION. WAY RAPIDLY CLEARING. Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright. TOKIO, May 24. With the release yesterday of the Japanese prisoners, held at Vladivostock on charges of espionage, the only matter remaining for settlement between Japan and Russia before the formal recognition of their agreement is the massacre, which happened some years ago, when 700 Japanese, including the Consul, were killed. Japan demanded an apology, involving the acceptance of responsibility for reparation. It is expected that an agreement may be reached on 'this outstanding question, thus clearing the way for a full' settlement.—Sydney Sun Cable.
