WAIWERA RUNS AGROUND.

REFLOATED WITHOUT DAMAGE. Vwm Ovu Own C'OBaEBPOWDtNT.} WELLINGTON, April 1/ When coming to anchor in the roadstead last night, the Shaw, Sawill and Albion steamer Waiwera went aground on a sandbank. It was about low tide -when the vessel arrived about 7 o’clock. There was a slight mist, and the land appeared to be further away than was actually the case. The place where the mishap occurred was within half a mile of the moles, for the vessel was much closer inshore than is usually the case for steamers making for the roadstead, anchorage. The Waiwera was drawing 24ft of water when she struck. She got off this morning about a couple of hours before high tide without any difficulty and without suffering any damage. Lightering operations were later commenced. The vessel is loading primary produce for British ports.
