SIXTY YEARS AGO. FROM THE Otago Daily Times. Inveniam viam out faciam.” TUESDAY, JANUARY 11, 1864.

A few jottings have been furnished to us from Oamaru. The district is described as in a most prosperous condition, pastoral pursuits especially are thriving, 'iho lambing increase tins year is estimated to bo fuljy eighty per com. The wool clip is both largo and good. The yield trom Messrs Wilkin and Thompson’s station is estimated at fully 500 bales; from Messrs Borton and M'Master’s, 400; from Messrs Fenwick’s, 350 bales; and from Mr M'Lean s on the Lindis, 460 bales. Other yields are proportionately large. On Messrs Borton and M'Master’s station a woolslied, yards, and sheepwash have been erected at a cost of between two and throe thousand pounds. Some very heavy crops are being raised in Oamaru. Mr Allen has forty acres of oats growing, which our informant describes as superior to anything he has seen in this or the neighbouring colonies. The town of Oamaru is increasing in size, and numbers a goodly population, Oamaru may be said to be entirely independent of the gold fields, and it is satisfactory to find that the interests on which it thrives are sufficient to advance it. Gold has been found near the Waitaki on the runs of Messrs Borton and M'Master, Douglas and Aldcrson, M'Evoy, Ferens, and Dan spy, hot not in very remunerative quantities. A few miners are still searching for something better.
