DUNEDIN FREE KINDERGARTEN

The monthly meeting of the committee of tho Dunedin Free Kindergarten Association was held on Thursday afternoon. There wore nresent: Miss Alexander (presmenl), Mescfames Hutchison, Isaacs, Glendining, Gilkison, Brick ell, Smith, M'Lean, Taverner, Wright, Solomon, Sidey, Phillips, Cameron, Lough, and Miss Kelsey. The question of a suitable building for the Caversham Kindergarten for next year came up for discussion, the Baptist Church being unable longer to accommodate it Mcsdamos Wright, Phillips, and Taverner were authorised to make arrangements for the use of some other hall if possible. The following students gained (heir diplomas: —Misses Croft, d’ Auvergne, Reid. Grant, Allen, Goldsmid. Miss Reid is alsc sitting her Government examination. Honours were awarded in the following subjects : Miss Croft, for class teaching, hand work, and hygiene; Miss-d’Auvergne, for class teaching, handwork, hygiene, and art; Miss Grant, for nature study and art: Miss Reid, for handwork and art. All the 10 junior students passed their first year tests. Thanks arc due to the following examiners:—Professor D. P. White, Dr Marion Whyte, Misses Dalrymple, Goldsmith. Hutton, Burton (2), Permin. It was decided to advertise vacancies for students for 1924-25, the course being a twoyear one. Arrangements for the presentation of diplomas on December 10 were discussed.

The kindergartens break up for tho holidays as follows: —Reynolds and Caversham on tho morning of the 14th, and St. Ribband Kaikorai on the afternoon of the same day. Kelsoy-Yaralla will break up on/Saturday the 15th, in the morning. The question of opening another kindergarten in Dunedin was discussed. The five already established are proving such a benefit to their neighbourhoods the committee feels that it is a pity more children should not havo the same advantages. Tho committee expressed its appreciation of the work done during the year by the subcommittees at Kaikorai and St. Kilda, and of Miss Dutton’s work with the students. The collector handed in subscriptions amounting to £45 ss.
