SIXTY YEARS AGO.
The schooner Zephyr brought from Wanganui a lot of thirty-six head of store cattle. They had been shipped for some time, but the vessel made the run down in seven days, having left on Tuesday week, and her freight is landed without loss during the passage, and in fine, lively condition. . . The s-s. Alhambra arrived at 3 p.m. from Lyttelton from which port she sailed on the previous evening. Reports the arrival at -Lyttelton of the ship British Crown, of the first party of Lancashire immigrants, sent out under the superintendence of Her Majesty's Emigration Commissioners. She sailed with 466 souls, and during the passage nine births occurred and twelve deaths. . . The brig Tyra arrived in port late on the evening of the 26th. She brings one of the finest freights of cattle that have lately been imported from Wellington, and without any loss . .
