Ministerial. Mr Massey was the guest of the Governor-General at a dinner given in his honour at Government House last night (reports our Wellington correspondent). Miss 0. ,E. Burton, of this city, was awarded first prize for original story and first for essay at the recent Invercargill competitions. Mr W. B. Bell, manager of the Dominion Rubber plantations, is at present in Dunedin on bis periodical vacation. Mr Bell arrived in Dunedin from Kelant-an on Friday night. Mr S. Lawson, of this city, who has for a number of years so successfully played the part of female impersonator with the New Zealand Diggers Company, was a passenger by the north express on Saturday, en route to America. Messrs James Ritchie, D. R. Corson, J. P. Parcoll. J. Leslie, jun., W. Toms, W. Sutherland, A. Crombie, A. Campbell, and A. Robertson have been appointed members of the Bannockburn Domain Board, The Mayor (Mr H. L. Tapley) will tender a civic reception to Mr Oscar Asohe, the noted Australian actor and producer, at the Town Hall pn Tuesday next at 3 p.m Mr T. M. Wilford (Leader ot the Oppo sition), and Mrs Wilford were entertained at supper last night by tile members of the Liberal Party and their wives (reports our Wellington correspondent). Mr Wilford is leaving on a sea voyage to the Far East, and ho will be accompanied ■ uy Mrs Wilford. At last night’s function Mr Sidey was in the chair. Mr and Mrs Wilford’s health was proposed by the Hon. D. Buddo, and all present- wisned them bon voyage. Mr and Mrs Wilford will leave on September 7 for Sydney, where they will transfer to the outgoing Japanese steamer oil September 16. Miss B. R. iVrQueen (Dunedin) spent 18 months, in Canada and the United States, visiting all the large cities and places of interest. Now she lias arrived in London (reports our London correspondent Under date July 17). August is to be spent in Scotland and after that Miss M'Queen will return to London. - On the eve of his departure for Timaru. Mr Erie Wallace, of the Money Order and Savings Bank Branch, was presented by the Dunedin Post Office staff with a case of razors and a Mosgiol rug. Owing to his courteous and obliging manner Mr Wallace was very popular with the public and with his fellow officers. Mr I. W. Raymond (Invercargill) has made a splendid recovery from the severe operation which was performed about the middle of June, and he has now come out of the nursing home (reports our London correspondent, writing cn July 17). After a quiet rest, Mr and Mrs Raymond will leave London for the seaside at the end of this month in order that the convalescent stage may become well advanced. M‘Caw; assistant, Normal, Mr William T. O. Kaye; assistant. Outran], Miss L. L. Griffin; assistant. Palmerston District High School, Miss W, S. J. Snell; assistant, Waikouaiti. Miss E L. Baxter. The Rev. Dr J. T. Pinfold (Wellington) represented the New Zealand Methodist Church at the Belfast Conference, and. after fulfilling an engagement in Londonderry, he made a journey into the Free State to study present social and political conditions (wrote our London correspondent on July 17). Since then he has been in Manchester, has attended the Fellowship of the Kingdom Conference at Swanwick, in Derbyshire, and has visited the various colleges and places of interest in Oxford, This week he is at Bristol for the Wesleyan Conference, and after that he will go to the North of England to preach and probably to lecture as well. On September 28 Dr Pinfold will leave for New Zealand, via Australia.
