SIR HARRY LAUDER

The breather gods are not. smiling kindly upon Sir Harry Lauder and his company. Last night it took much, courage to leave the comfort of the fireside for the theatre, and the size of the audience that assembled in His Majesty’s was nothing, less than a remarkable tribute to the great comedian’s popularity. But within the building the members of the company that appeared in tho first half of the programme soon dissipated any of tho sornbrencss that a very wintry night generally makes for, and, by the time tho “star” took the stage, the audience was in the best of good humours. Tom Payne and Ycra Hilliard repeated their successful burlesques. La Venture made another very favourable impression in the beautiful fantasy called “Fata Morgana.” Phyllis and Giles gave more comic entertainment, and Daphne Ferguson danced excellently. Quocnie Fenton sang several songs that were well received, and Stan Kavanagh evoked many laughs and much admiration for his juggling work. Then, after the interval, came Sir Harry Lauder to sing again tho snugs that so captivated the audience on Thursday. Again and again be was recalled, and, if the audience bad had its way, he would probably have been performing well past midnight. As it, was, lie held the stage for tho best, part of two hours —a time of song and story that will long live in tho memories of those present.
