COUNCIL OF EDUCATION.

(Peb United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, June 22. Tile Council of Education to-day resolved that it bo a recommendation to the department that it retain teachers in aided schools ns at present, and that where special provision of teaching- is provided the Minister of Education is advised to provide travelling allowances for pupils attending secondary schools. Mr F. H. Campbell (Otago High School) expressed dissatisfaction with the constitution of the council, and said that in his opinion the council under present conditions hardly fulfilled the intentions of those who originally set up the scheme. Ho moved—- ' That the council respectfully submit to the Minister that the constitution of the council should bo amended in such a way that the council may become an administrative instead of an advisory body.” After a deal of discussion the motion was negatived by 14 votes to 3.
