PROCESSION OF WITNESS
LANTERN SERVICE AT PRINCESS THEATRIC Evensong was held at. St. Paul s Cathedral last night, tho preacher being the Rev. J H. Rogers. At the conclusion of the service tho congregation termed a procession of witness, and, led by the Bishop, members ot the clergy, hihl l-lio eliou, marched along Princes si root to the Brmcess Theatre. Tho procession was watched from ihe pavements by a large crowd, and the two well-known hymns, "Onward Christian Soldiers'” and “The Church’s One Foundation,” were snug by those participating. There was a very large congregation in tho theatre, where tho Rev. \V. Uphill conducted a lantern service, on Iho Life of Christ.” Several popular hymns were sung, including "Rock of Ages” and “Toll Mo rho Old, Old Story.” and Mr Uphill led in prayer. While it- is desirable that there should bo a largo attendance at. such a function as (his, it is .‘■till more desirable that those who attend should behave themselves. It is extremely regrettable that a number of young men should have thought tit to occupy scats in the upper circle and, while there, disgust the more sincere members of the congregation by a display of childishness that would have done credit to any hand of larrikins. Perhaps it was fortunate that they decided to retire shortly after the service * began—for a lecture on “The Life of Christ.” was not to their taste—and their action in making a noisy exit was quite in keeping with their behaviour throughout tho evening.
